Rick and Tayla The Block 2026

WEEK 2: FAMILY BATHROOM

Rick and Tayla took a different approach to Family Bathroom Week, delivering a space that showcased some beautiful design elements but also attracted criticism from the judges. While the vanity feature tiles were praised as “absolutely stunning”, the overall layout was considered too conservative for a winning bathroom, and the lack of upper storage was seen as a practical miss for a family home. Styling choices, including dried flowers, busy towels and a bath mat, were also called out for not aligning with the intended luxury aesthetic. Adding to the challenges, both the powder room and shower were left unfinished, but despite these setbacks, the judges agreed the father-daughter duo showed significant improvement from the previous week and were heading in a much stronger direction.

WEEK 4: MAIN ENSUITE

Rick and Tayla impressed the judges with a luxurious and highly functional Main Ensuite that combined coastal-inspired styling with strong buyer appeal. The space was praised for its generous storage, spacious shower and natural stone-look tiles, which Darren described as feeling perfectly suited to the beachside location. The judges also appreciated the room's warm, timeless design and felt it would age well over time. While there were a few minor criticisms, including a vanity and basin configuration that impacted functionality and artwork that felt overly staged, the overall response was overwhelmingly positive, with the judges agreeing the ensuite was elegant, practical and highly marketable.

WEEK 5: ALFRESCO

Rick and Tayla's Living, Dining and Alfresco reveal delivered plenty of luxury touches, but the judges felt the couple struggled to make the most of the generous space. While the room featured quality finishes and a carefully selected fireplace, the judges questioned several layout decisions, including an undersized dining setting, furniture placement that failed to maximise the home's stunning views, and large areas of unused floor space. The fireplace also divided opinion, and some unfinished details were noted. Overall, the judges believed the space had strong potential but felt the layout and styling missed opportunities to fully capitalise on one of the most impressive living zones and outlooks on The Block.

WEEK 7: KITCHEN PANTRY & POWDER ROOM

Rick and Tayla delivered a kitchen, butler’s pantry and powder room that combined practicality with timeless styling, earning praise from the judges for its strong functionality and buyer appeal. The kitchen impressed with its generous storage, premium appliances and thoughtful layout, while the butler’s pantry added further convenience and organisation for everyday living. Throughout the spaces, the judges appreciated the home's warm, classic aesthetic and considered design choices, which continued to strengthen House 5's market appeal. In the powder room, Beaumont Tiles’ Tundra Ash Microtec Textured Tile was used on the floor, providing a durable and sophisticated stone-look foundation, while Heritage Marble Emerald Textured created a striking feature across the vanity and toilet wall. Together, these materials introduced texture, depth and a rich sense of luxury, helping elevate the powder room into a standout space within the home.
